Awesome day. Started out with a free walking tour of
Barcelona that we heard about from two guys we met in Valencia (an Aussie and a
Mexican who work in Germany) who are also now in Barcelona and joined us all day. The tour guide was great and knew a ton of
history (Dad, he thanked me for asking so many questions, thought that would
make you proud!). We walked all over the Gothic area of Barcelona. Side note… a
guy in my hostel just walked in wearing a Purdue shirt! Boiler Up! Ok back on
track… I learned about Catalonia history, the battles they have fought, Roman history in this city, some religious history including a 13 year old girl named Auralia who refused to convert to Catholicism so the top of her head was chopped of and 13 geese flew out. After that she became a patron saint of the city and one church has a courtyard with 13 geese always inside. The guys, Amy, and myself took a long walk up a hill (with a lot of steps) to the top of Barcelona with amazing views and the Montjuic Castle. Now it's siesta time, here are some photos from today....
